To the Heartland and other tales
Julie Perrin Storyteller Tim Humphrey and Madeleine Flynn Musicians CD total running time 52 minutes Cost $25 |
During
the last ten years, Julie has told stories at festivals, in hospitals and
at baptisms. She's been on the radio, in kindergartens and at
universities. Julie has performed for large corporations and in rooming
houses. She's been found telling stories in fountains, on mountains and
off the backs of trucks. In 1994 Julie was awarded an M.Ed for her thesis,
'The Tale of one Teller', which explores the role of the contemporary
storyteller. For the last four years she has performed in collaboration
with Madeleine and Tim. Adapted traditional and original stories combine
with original music to create To the Heartland and other tales. The
stories are a delight for adults and children and worth listening to many
times. In Julie's words: 'My favourite audience has always been children
and adults listening together. When people lean into a story they create
an eagerness which is catching. Listening together we hear the joke, catch
the punchline, then breathe and sigh with relief or pleasure.' TDK Book
Award Judge's comment: "This is a narration full of spirit, passion and
confidence and also sensitivity. It is an easy voice to listen to with
plenty of variation and well-characterised people." Suitable for all ages.

Populated with characters both real and imagined, Romancing traverses the boundaries of oral history and fiction to create an entertaining and often disturbing picture of Australian country life from the 1930's to the 1980's. Drawing on her knowledge as a folklorist and oral storyteller Morgon uses her own recollections as a framework to present the stories. Morgon Schatz-Blackrose was born and raised in Tumbarumba, NSW, the eldest daughter of an army nurse and a sheep farmer. She came to the Dandenongs after the fires in 1983 and is a full-time mother and storyteller. Her stories have been broadcast on 3LO, 3MDR and Radio National. A founding member of the Tell-Tale-Tits Women's Storytelling Troupe, Morgon has been an active proponent of the oral tradition for the past ten years. She has co-produced two audio-tapes for the Storytelling Guild of Australia (VIC) and recorded her own tape, "Bruiser and Other Sheepish Stories". Romancing The Stories in My Life is her first book. "A truly authentic voice in Australian storytelling."
